IOM Programmes in Southern Africa
IOM believes that migration is a potential catalyst for development and economic growth in Southern Africa but the region also faces a number of migration challenges, including the emergence of a brain drain of skilled professionals, the disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS on migrant communities, and population displacement as the result of conflicts, natural disasters, and economic crises.
In order to harness the positive benefits of migration and reduce its negative impacts, IOM's Regional Office for Southern Africa and its country offices, are working with governments and civil society partners to effectively manage migration in the region.
